Chapter 2 – Secrets Buried in the Past

Chapter 2 – Secrets Buried in the Past
Three days later, Elena returned to the headquarters she had quietly built years ago.
Employees lined the lobby.
Not because they were ordered to.
Because they wanted to welcome her home.
Among them stood Margaret.
The elderly receptionist Damian had planned to fire months earlier.
Margaret wiped tears from her eyes.
"I knew someday you'd come back."
Elena hugged her gently.
"You were one of the few who treated me like a person."
Later that afternoon, Elena entered her father's old office.
Everything remained exactly as he had left it.
Inside one drawer rested a handwritten letter.
Her father's final words.
"If someone only respects power... never hand them your heart before they earn it."
Elena closed her eyes.
She finally understood.
She hadn't lost Damian because she was weak.
She had lost him because he never deserved her trust.
Outside the building, Damian watched from across the street.
Not with anger.
With regret.
