Chapter 4: A Different Kind of Beginning

One year later.
St. Matthew's Church looked exactly the same.
Sunlight still poured through the stained-glass windows.
The bells still echoed across Charleston.
But this time, Megan wasn't there to get married.
She was there for something much simpler.
Father Paul had invited her to speak at a charity fundraiser.
As she walked through the church doors, she suddenly saw a familiar little girl running toward her.
“Miss Megan!”
Lily hugged her tightly.
Natalie followed behind her, smiling.
“She's been asking if you'd be here all week.”
Megan laughed.
“I wouldn't miss it.”
Across the courtyard, Daniel stood alone.
He looked older.
Tired.
Humbled.
After the divorce, he had lost his marriage, his fiancée, and much of the trust he'd spent years building.
He slowly approached them.
“Megan…”
She turned.
“I just wanted to say I'm sorry.”
She studied him for a moment.
Then she smiled kindly.
“I know.”
Daniel looked surprised.
“That's it?”
Megan nodded.
“Forgiveness isn't for you anymore. It's for me.”
He quietly lowered his head.
“Thank you.”
Then he walked away.
For good.
Megan watched him disappear into the crowd without sadness.
Without anger.
Without regret.
Natalie squeezed her hand.
Lily grinned up at them both.
“Can we get ice cream now?”
The two women burst into laughter.
“Absolutely,” Megan said.
As they walked away together, Megan realized something extraordinary.
The worst day of her life had never been the end of her story.
It had simply been the day the truth arrived.
