Chapter 1 – The Woman He Never Understood
The ballroom fell silent.
Every guest watched as Victor Hayes stared at the notification on his own phone.
Your executive access has been revoked. Effective immediately.
His face drained of color.
"What is this?" he demanded.
Across the room, Isabella remained seated, calmly swirling the red wine in her glass.
"It means exactly what it says."
Victor laughed bitterly.
"You think some prank can scare me? I built Hayes Global."
"No," Isabella replied. "You managed it. I built it."
The room erupted into whispers.
His new bride, Vanessa, tightened her grip around his arm.
"Victor...what's happening?"
Before he could answer, the chairman of the board walked onto the stage with several company attorneys.
"Ladies and gentlemen," the chairman announced, "effective today, Mrs. Isabella Hayes resumes her position as Chairwoman of Hayes Global."
Victor's heart pounded.
"You can't do this!"
The chairman looked at him without emotion.
"We already did."
"For years," Isabella said softly, "I let everyone believe you were the genius behind the company."
She stood gracefully.
"I created every acquisition strategy."
"I negotiated every international merger."
"I personally owned fifty-one percent of the voting shares."
Victor froze.
He had spent years believing the company belonged to him.
He never realized the woman he dismissed had quietly remained the majority owner all along.
