Chapter 3: The Collapse of Power
They moved to the projection room upstairs.
The guests followed like shadows, pulled by curiosity they couldn’t resist. Elena stood frozen near the doorway, her composure fracturing with every step.
Damian inserted the flash drive.
The screen flickered.
Then came the truth.
Documents. Contracts. Secret negotiations. Elena’s father’s signature. Then Elena’s name—added years later, quietly, deliberately.
And then the audio.
A man’s voice: calm, calculated.
“We take the land first. Then we legalize it later. People forget. They always forget.”
Gasps filled the room.
Elena stumbled backward. “Turn it off,” she whispered. “Turn it off!”
But Damian didn’t move.
Because now there was more—footage. A burned village. Interviews with survivors. Mary’s mother, speaking through tears. Dates. Evidence. Everything aligned too perfectly to deny.
Damian finally spoke, his voice low. “You knew.”
Elena shook her head violently. “I didn’t— I was a child when—”
“But you continued it,” he said. “After your father died. You expanded it.”
That landed harder than any slap.
Mary stepped forward from the doorway. “I didn’t come here for revenge,” she said quietly. “I came because silence was killing everyone who was left.”
Elena’s voice broke. “What do you want?”
Mary looked at her for a long moment.
“Justice,” she said. “Not destruction. Not your downfall. Just truth in the open.”
The room stayed silent.
Then Damian did something no one expected.
He unplugged the screen.
Everyone turned to him.
“I’m calling an emergency board meeting,” he said. “And then I’m going public.”

Elena stared at him. “You can’t be serious.”
He met her eyes, steady now. “I can’t stand in the same shadow anymore.”
