Chapter 2: The Man Everyone Feared

Chapter 2: The Man Everyone Feared
Nearly an hour later, the sedan stopped before a secluded mountain estate unlike anything Sophia had ever seen.
Private security guarded every entrance.
Cameras tracked every movement.
The gates opened only after multiple identity scans.
As Adrian stepped out of the car, dozens of employees immediately lowered their heads.
"Good evening, Mr. Knight."
Not one dared meet his eyes.
Sophia followed him inside, overwhelmed by the quiet elegance surrounding her.
A doctor was already waiting.
"No broken bones," the physician said after examining her injuries. "But she's severely exhausted."
Adrian nodded once.
"Prepare the east guest suite."
After everyone left, Sophia finally found the courage to ask.
"Why did you help me?"
He stood beside the fireplace, staring into the flames.
"Because I know what it looks like when someone is trapped."
His answer surprised even himself.
For years, Adrian Knight had built the largest private security corporation in the country after surviving a kidnapping that had taken his parents' lives.
He trusted almost no one.
He never invited strangers into his home.
Yet tonight, something about the terrified young woman reminded him of the frightened boy he had once been.
Sophia lowered her eyes.
"My stepmother arranged to sell me to one of her business partners."
The words hung heavily in the room.
"I ran before they could lock the door."
Adrian remained silent for several seconds.
Then he picked up his phone.
"Begin a complete investigation into the Ashcroft family."
His chief of security answered immediately.
"Everything?"
May you like
Adrian's expression hardened.
"Everything."
