Chapter 2: The Mob Boss's Son

Chapter 2: The Mob Boss's Son
The waitress had barely stepped outside the ballroom when a convoy of black SUVs surrounded the building.
Men in tailored suits stepped out with military precision.
No weapons were visible.
None were necessary.
Every person in Chicago's underworld knew exactly who they worked for.
The crowd instinctively backed away.
Then he appeared.
The same young man from behind the pillar.
Tall.
Perfectly composed.
Cold gray eyes.
He walked straight toward the waitress.
She instinctively tensed.
"Are you here to arrest me?" she asked.
He shook his head.
"I'm here to thank you."
She frowned.
"For what?"
He glanced toward the ballroom doors.
"You protected the only family I have left."
She looked confused.
"The woman inside..."
"...is my mother."
The waitress blinked.
Everyone nearby gasped.
The whispers spread instantly.
"That's Vincent Moretti..."
"The Ghost of Chicago..."
"The man every crime family fears..."
Vincent ignored every stare.
"My enemies have been searching for one weakness."
He looked toward the ballroom.
"They found her."
The waitress crossed her arms.
"If you're really who they say you are... why didn't you stop it yourself?"
For the first time, his expression cracked.
"Because I was looking for the person willing to protect her without knowing who she was."
May you like
He looked directly into her eyes.
"You were the only one."
