Chapter 2: The Woman Who Owned Everything

Chapter 2: The Woman Who Owned Everything
The ballroom fell into a silence so complete that even the musicians stopped playing.
Margaret's triumphant smile slowly disappeared.
"What did he just say?" she demanded, staring at the event manager.
The young man swallowed hard before repeating himself.
"Ms. Carter, the legal documents for the ballroom expansion are ready for your signature. Since you own the Grand Wellington Hotel, we need your approval before we proceed."
Every pair of eyes turned toward Olivia.
She stood motionless, red wine soaking through the front of her wedding gown, her expression calm despite the humiliation she'd just endured.
Margaret laughed nervously.
"This is ridiculous. She couldn't possibly own this hotel."
The manager looked genuinely confused.
"Ma'am... she purchased the entire Wellington Hospitality Group two years ago."
The groom, Ethan, blinked in disbelief.
"You... never told me."
Olivia met his eyes.
"You never asked."
Gasps echoed through the ballroom.
Everyone knew the Wellington Hotel.
It wasn't just expensive.
It was one of the most prestigious luxury hotels in the state.
Margaret suddenly remembered every cruel word she'd spoken.
The accusations.
The insults.
The wine she'd deliberately poured over Olivia's wedding dress.
She had tried to humiliate the very woman who owned the building they were standing in.
For the first time all evening, Margaret looked frightened.
She forced an awkward smile.
"Olivia... sweetheart... this was all just a misunderstanding."
Olivia's expression didn't change.
"No."
"It was exactly what you meant it to be."
Then she turned to the hotel manager.
"Please stop all wedding services immediately."
The room erupted into whispers.
"The reception is canceled."
Several guests stood up in confusion.
"But," Olivia continued, "none of the food should be wasted."
She looked across the ballroom filled with hundreds of untouched meals.
"Package everything and donate it tonight to the city's homeless shelters."
The manager nodded instantly.
"Yes, Ms. Carter."
The catering staff immediately began following her instructions.
Not Margaret's.
Not Ethan's.

Only Olivia's.
For the first time that evening, everyone knew exactly who was in charge.
