Part 2: The Evidence They Never Expected

Part 2: The Evidence They Never Expected
Alejandro didn't say a word.
He simply reached beneath the stack of forged custody papers and pulled out a small black notebook.
Margaret's face turned ghost white.
"No..." she whispered.
He opened it slowly.
Every page was filled with dates.
Doctor appointments.
Phone calls.
Names of attorneys.
Copies of my signatures—painfully practiced until they looked almost identical to my own.
Even worse, there were handwritten notes.
"If Elena appears unstable after delivery, emergency custody can be requested immediately."
"Keep Alejandro isolated overseas until the paperwork is complete."
My knees nearly gave out.
"This... this was all planned?"
Alejandro kept reading.
Another page listed every package and letter addressed to me over the last seven months.
Prenatal vitamins.
Medical bills.
Insurance statements.
Letters from my obstetrician warning that I had missed critical prenatal appointments.
Appointments I had never even known existed.
Margaret had intercepted every one.
She had called the clinics pretending to be me.
She had canceled visits.
Rescheduled tests.
Created a paper trail suggesting I was neglecting my unborn child.
Alejandro looked up.
His military discipline barely concealed the fury burning behind his eyes.
"You endangered my wife."
Margaret's voice cracked.
"I was protecting my grandson."
"You nearly killed him."
"I would never—"
"The iron was still plugged in."
Silence.
At that exact moment, someone knocked on the front door.
Three sharp knocks.
Then another.
"Police Department."
Margaret froze.
She slowly turned toward Alejandro.
"You called them?"
"No."
He hadn't.
When he opened the door, two detectives stood beside a military investigator wearing Army Criminal Investigation Division credentials.
The investigator held a folder.
"Captain Castillo?"
"Yes."
"We've been looking for you."
Alejandro frowned.
"I've been trying to report in for weeks."
"We know."
The investigator glanced inside the house.
His eyes landed on the forged casualty notification lying across the kitchen table.
His expression hardened immediately.
"Nobody from the Department of Defense issued that letter."
One detective carefully photographed the iron, the forged custody documents, and every unopened envelope.
Margaret's breathing became shallow.
"This is a family misunderstanding."
The detective didn't answer.
Instead, he asked one simple question.
"Mrs. Castillo... would you like to explain why your fingerprints are on documents containing forged federal military seals?"
May you like
For the first time in her life...
Margaret had no answer.
