Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Walls

Chapter 2: The Truth Behind the Walls

Christopher did not take Emma to her bedroom.

He carried her straight into his private study, locked the door, wrapped her in a warm blanket, and knelt beside her.

"No one will ever hurt you again," he whispered.

Emma looked at him with frightened eyes.

"You promise?"

Christopher nodded.

"I swear on everything I have."

For the first time in years, Emma believed him.

Meanwhile, upstairs, Estelle Pierce watched from behind the curtains as police vehicles entered the estate.

Her expression never changed.

She calmly poured herself another cup of tea.

"She's weak," she muttered.

"Juliette was always going to fail."

The family attorney, Leonard Brooks, stood quietly nearby.

"They've arrested Juliette, Mrs. Pierce."

Estelle smiled.

"Good."

Leonard frowned.

"You don't seem surprised."

"I prepared for this years ago."

She opened a hidden drawer inside her antique desk.

Several folders rested inside.

Birth certificates.

Old photographs.

Financial agreements.

And a revised version of Christopher's father's will.

Leonard's face turned pale.

"You forged this?"

"I corrected history."

She slid the papers back into the drawer.

"As long as those documents exist, Emma can never inherit the Pierce empire."

Downstairs, Detective Sarah Collins questioned everyone who had been near the pool.

Every employee told the same story.

Juliette hated Emma.

Juliette isolated Emma.

Juliette constantly spoke about the inheritance.

Then Yvette handed Detective Collins the recorder.

"There are three more recordings."

Christopher looked at her.

"Three?"

Yvette nodded slowly.

"I've been collecting evidence for months."

The detective pressed play.

The second recording filled the room.

Juliette's voice came first.

"If Christopher adopts her legally, everything changes."

Then Estelle answered.

"Then Christopher must never learn she's already his daughter."

Christopher stopped breathing.

"So...my mother knew."

Yvette lowered her eyes.

"She always knew."

Christopher drove Emma away from the mansion before sunrise.

No reporters.

No servants.

No family.

Only the two of them.

They arrived at a small lake where Rachel had loved to paint.

Emma looked across the water.

"My mommy used to bring me here."

Christopher smiled sadly.

"I know."

Emma turned toward him.

"You knew my mommy?"

Christopher's eyes filled with tears.

"I loved her."

She stared quietly.

Then asked the question he feared most.

"Are you really my daddy?"

Christopher knelt in front of her.

"Yes."

The little girl threw her arms around his neck.

"I knew it."

Christopher held her as tightly as he could.

Years of silence disappeared in one embrace.

But across town...

Estelle was already making another phone call.

"This isn't over."
