Chapter 11 - The Sister Taken in White.

George sent a video thirty seconds later.
Olivia sat bound to a chair in an abandoned greenhouse.
Her wedding gown was torn at one shoulder.
A bruise darkened her cheek.
Behind her, dead vines clung to broken glass walls.
George stepped into frame.
“Transfer the trust shares to the holding company listed in the attachment.”
“You have six hours.”
“If the police come, your sister dies.”
The video ended.
Maya called the investigator despite the warning.
She had learned enough from Richard’s family rules.
Secrecy protected the abuser, not the victim.
Police traced the video but found routing through overseas servers.
The greenhouse contained one visible clue.
A faded blue emblem on a watering tank.
Maya recognized it from childhood.
Carter Medical had once operated an experimental botanical facility near Joliet.
The site closed after a chemical leak.
Richard later sold the land through a shell company controlled by George.
Maya shared the location.
Officers prepared a tactical response.
She insisted on going.
The lead investigator refused.
Maya went anyway.
She drove south with Ruth’s cassette recording copied onto three secure drives.
Her plan was reckless.
It was also the only one George might believe.
She arrived at the greenhouse before police established the perimeter.
George waited beside Olivia with a laptop.
Two armed men guarded the entrance.
“You came alone,” he said.
“I came with the transfer authority.”
Olivia lifted her head.
“Maya, do not give him anything.”
George struck the back of her chair.
“She developed principles at an inconvenient time.”
Maya placed a flash drive on the table.
“The shares transfer when Olivia is released.”
George smiled.
“You are negotiating with property you barely knew existed.”
“I know exactly what it controls.”
The trust shares gave access to Carter Medical’s patents, board appointments, and research databases.
George did not merely want money.
He wanted control of a gene-editing platform Calder Biotech had considered purchasing.
Maya understood why he had watched her apartment.
Her new job and inherited shares placed her at the center of a corporate battle she had never chosen.
George inserted the drive.
A transfer screen appeared.
He entered the holding company details.
Maya watched the progress bar move.
At thirty percent, one guard received a radio message.
Police were approaching from the eastern service road.
George closed the laptop.
“You lied.”
“So did you.”
He drew a pistol.
Maya’s heart pounded, but her voice remained steady.
“The transfer is encrypted.”
“If you kill me, it reverses.”
George aimed at Olivia instead.
“Then you live with the correction.”
Olivia threw herself sideways.
The chair crashed into George’s knees.
The gun fired into the glass roof.
Maya lunged for the laptop.
One guard grabbed her dress.
She drove her heel into his foot and struck him with the metal computer case.
Police shattered the side entrance.
The greenhouse erupted in commands, gunfire, and falling glass.
George dragged Olivia toward a rear corridor.
Maya followed through rows of dead plants.
They reached the old chemical storage room.
A warning sign hung crookedly on the door.
George held the gun beneath Olivia’s jaw.
“Finish the transfer.”
Maya raised the laptop.
“It already finished.”
George looked at the screen.
One hundred percent.
His smile returned.
Then the account name changed.
CARTER RESTITUTION TRUST.
Maya had not transferred the shares to George.
She had transferred dividend control into an irrevocable fund for defrauded students and patients.
George’s face twisted.
“You destroyed billions.”
“I protected them from men like you.”
He fired at the laptop.
Maya dropped it.
Olivia bit his hand and twisted away.
The second shot struck a chemical pipe.
Vapor hissed into the room.
George ran for the exit.
The damaged door jammed.
Maya pulled Olivia toward an emergency vent.
They crawled through as alarms began screaming.
Police caught George near the outer fence.
Outside, Olivia collapsed against Maya.
“You gave away the money.”
“Most of it.”
“You could have been one of the richest women in Illinois.”
“I am still employed.”
Olivia laughed through tears.
For one brief moment, they were sisters again.
Then an officer approached carrying George’s phone.
A live call remained connected.

The name on the screen was RICHARD CARTER.
Their father had coordinated the kidnapping from his guarded hospital room.
