Final Ending — The Truth at the Bottom of the Stairs

Two days later, Margaret Whitmore woke up fully lucid.

Nathaniel sat beside her.

Vivien stood at the window.

The question was simple.

“Did you fall?”

Margaret looked at her son.

Then, slowly, she shook her head.

“No,” she said.

Her eyes shifted—just slightly—to Vivien.

“I was pushed.”

Silence.

The kind that doesn’t echo.

The kind that collapses.

Vivien didn’t speak.

She didn’t cry.

She didn’t argue.

She simply stood very still, as if moving even slightly would break whatever control she had left.

Nathaniel rose.

He looked at her—not with anger.

With clarity.

And for the first time since the Whitmore estate had gone silent at the top of the stairs…

someone finally spoke the truth out loud.

“Call my lawyer,” he said.

And the house, at last, began to breathe again.
