Chapter 1: The Truth He Never Expected

Nathan stared at the divorce papers as if they weren't real.

"No... Sophia wouldn't do this."

He grabbed his phone and called her immediately.

Once.

Twice.

Ten times.

Every call went straight to voicemail.

His heartbeat quickened as he rushed out of his office and sped toward their mansion.

When he arrived, the house was eerily quiet.

The staff stood silently, avoiding eye contact.

"Where's Mrs. Carter?" Nathan demanded.

No one answered.

He ran upstairs.

Sophia's closet was empty.

Every dress, every pair of shoes, every personal belonging was gone.

Only the nursery remained untouched.

Inside the baby's crib sat a small white envelope with his name written across the front.

Nathan's hands trembled as he opened it.

"Sophia..."

He unfolded the letter.

Nathan,

You embarrassed me in front of hundreds of people today.

But that wasn't the moment our marriage ended.

Our marriage ended the first time you chose another woman over your family and expected me to stay silent.

I stayed because I believed you would change.

I was wrong.

I'm leaving with our child before you teach our baby that betrayal is something a family should accept.

Don't look for me.

This goodbye is permanent.

Nathan slowly lowered the letter.

For the first time in years, he realized he hadn't simply lost an argument.

He had lost the only person who had truly loved him.

Then his phone buzzed.

It was a message from the chairman of the board.

Emergency meeting. Tomorrow. 8:00 A.M.

May you like

Nathan suddenly realized his public humiliation had become a corporate disaster.

And it was only beginning.
