David stumbled backward the moment he realized the entire restaurant had heard Elena's call.
“You're overreacting,” he barked, forcing a laugh that fooled no one. “It was just an argument between husband and wife.”
No one answered.
The silence felt heavier than before.
Then a chair scraped against the floor.
An elderly man in a navy blazer slowly stood.
“I saw exactly what happened,” he said firmly. “You pulled her by the hair.”
Another voice followed.
“So did I.”
Then another.
“And I recorded it.”
A young woman at a nearby table raised her phone.
“I started filming when he grabbed her.”
David's face turned pale.
Rebecca immediately pointed at the diners.
“You people have no right to interfere in our family!”
The restaurant manager stepped forward.
“Ma'am, violence against a guest is no longer a private family matter.”
Two waiters quietly helped Maya into another chair.
Her hands trembled so badly she could barely hold the glass of water placed before her.
Elena wrapped both hands around her daughter's cold fingers.
“You're safe now.”
Maya looked down.
“No, Mom... he'll be even angrier after this.”
Those words shattered everyone who heard them.
Even the young waitress standing nearby wiped away tears.

The elderly gentleman.
The waitress.
The restaurant manager.
The woman with the video.
Each account matched perfectly.
David's confidence disappeared with every statement.
Then Officer Harris turned to Maya.
“You don't have to protect anyone.”
