Chapter 1: The First Domino Falls

Chapter 1: The First Domino Falls
The black SUV disappeared into the rain before anyone inside the mansion realized what had just happened.
Sophia never looked back.
She lowered the phone from her ear as city lights blurred across the rain-speckled window. Less than thirty seconds later, her phone vibrated.
"All corporate accounts frozen."
Another message followed.
"Board members have been notified."
Then another.
"Emergency shareholder meeting scheduled for 8:00 A.M."
Sophia closed her eyes.
For three years she had allowed everyone to believe she was simply Ethan's devoted wife—the quiet woman who stayed behind the scenes while he became one of the youngest CEOs in the state.
None of them knew the truth.
The company wasn't built by Ethan.
It had been built with her family's investment.
Her grandfather had quietly purchased 51% of the holding company years earlier under a confidential trust.
The trust had one controlling beneficiary.
Sophia.
Back inside the mansion, Ethan poured himself another glass of whiskey, convinced he had finally eliminated the one obstacle standing between him and complete control.
Margaret smiled proudly.
Vanessa admired herself in the mirror, running her fingers over the diamond necklace.
None of them noticed that every television in the mansion suddenly switched to breaking financial news.
"Mercer Holdings stock has been halted pending emergency board action."
Silence filled the room.

Vanessa's smile disappeared.
