CHAP 6 — FINAL CONFRONTATION

CHAP 6 — FINAL CONFRONTATION
Lucas came to find me one last time.
Not at the mansion.
Not at the company.
But at the place he never thought I belonged:
The final shareholder meeting.
Security tried to stop him.
I raised my hand.
“Let him in.”
He walked in slowly.
No confidence.
No arrogance.
Only ruin.
He stopped in front of me.
“You planned all of this,” he said quietly.
I didn’t deny it.
“You let me believe I mattered,” he added.
I looked at him for a long moment.
“No,” I said.
“You let yourself believe that.”
His voice cracked.
“Was anything real?”
I tilted my head slightly.
“Yes.”
A pause.
“The lesson.”
He closed his eyes.
For the first time, he looked small.
Not powerful.
Not cruel.
Just finished.
I stood, straightening my blazer.
And the room went silent again.
Not because of fear this time—
But because of certainty.
I looked at everyone in the room and said clearly:
“Let this be recorded officially.”
Then I turned to Lucas.
May you like
And delivered the final sentence in perfect American English:
“You didn’t lose your wife, Lucas. You lost the person who was holding your entire world together without you ever noticing.”
