Chapter 5: One Year Later

One year later, the same house looked completely different.

The walls had been repainted.

The security cameras had been upgraded.

The atmosphere of fear had vanished.

Valeria stood in the garden wearing another emerald dress.

This time...

There was no makeup hiding bruises.

Children laughed across the lawn during a fundraiser supporting survivors of domestic abuse.

Inside the house, framed photographs had replaced expensive decorations.

Pictures of hope.

Healing.

Family.

Ernesto carried a birthday cake onto the patio.

"Ready?" he asked.

Valeria smiled.

"For the first time in years."

Friends gathered around her.

Real friends.

People who had stood beside her after the investigation.

The candles were lit.

Everyone began singing.

When the song ended, Ernesto handed her a small envelope.

Inside was a copy of the final court judgment.

Julián had been convicted on every count.

Ofelia had accepted a plea agreement and was ordered to pay full financial restitution while completing community service.

Every fraudulent document had been voided.

Every stolen asset had been returned.

Every criminal record now reflected the truth.

Valeria folded the judgment and looked at her father.

"You didn't save me."

"You reminded me that I was worth saving."

Ernesto smiled with tears in his eyes.

"No."

"You saved yourself the day you stopped protecting the people who were hurting you."

The candles flickered gently in the evening breeze.

This time, no one wished for revenge.

Only peace.

And as Valeria blew out the candles, she realized something she had almost forgotten was possible.

This wasn't the birthday where her life fell apart.

May you like

It was the birthday where her life finally began again.

THE END
