Chapter 2: Every Secret Comes to Light

Chapter 2: Every Secret Comes to Light
Within minutes the mansion became a crime scene.
Investigators photographed every bloodstain.
Every broken piece of leather.
Every mark across my back.
The riding crop Adrian had proudly used was sealed inside an evidence bag.
Vanessa tried to slip toward the rear hallway.
She didn't make it three steps.
"Ms. Cole?"
An investigator blocked her path.
"We have a warrant for your arrest."
Her smile disappeared.
"There must be some mistake."
"There are seventy-three million dollars that disagree with you."
She froze.
Richard nodded toward one of his attorneys.
The attorney opened several thick binders.
Bank transfers.
Offshore accounts.
Forged contracts.
Every fraudulent invoice Adrian and Vanessa had created over the past three years.
Adrian shook his head wildly.
"No... she handled the finances."
Vanessa spun toward him.
"You signed everything!"
"You told me it was legal!"
"You approved every transfer!"
They were no longer lovers.
They were two drowning people trying to push each other underwater first.
Richard quietly handed one final folder to the lead investigator.
"The audio recording from tonight."
The room fell silent.
Vanessa's own voice echoed through the speakers.
"Again. She rolled her eyes."
Then Adrian's.
"Keep counting."
Each strike.
Each scream.
Each laugh.
Recorded perfectly.
The investigator switched it off.
"I think we've heard enough."
Metal handcuffs clicked around Adrian's wrists.
