Chapter 1: The Truth They Tried to Bury

Chapter 1: The Truth They Tried to Bury
The silence outside the mansion became unbearable.
The four boys stood shoulder to shoulder, their small hands tightly clasped together. Though only six years old, each wore the same determined expression.
Richard stared at them as if he were looking at ghosts.
"What... what is this?" he whispered.
His mother, Evelyn, stepped forward with narrowed eyes.
"Mariana, stop this nonsense. Whose children are these?"
Mariana slowly wiped away her tears.
"They're mine."
Richard laughed nervously.
"Exactly. Yours."
She looked directly into his eyes.
"They're yours too."
The words landed like thunder.
Richard's face drained of color.
"No... that's impossible."
Mariana reached into her purse and pulled out a worn envelope.
"I discovered I was pregnant the morning you threw me out."
His breathing became uneven.
"You never told me."
"You never gave me the chance."
She reminded him of that rainy night six years earlier.
He had tossed her suitcase onto the driveway.
His mother had called her worthless.
The gates had closed behind her before she could even speak.
That same afternoon, her doctor had confirmed something unbelievable.
She wasn't carrying one baby.
She was carrying quadruplets.
Without family, money, or a home, Mariana disappeared.
She worked double shifts cleaning offices during the day and sewing clothes at night.
Many evenings she skipped dinner so the boys could eat.
She never complained.
She only promised herself one thing.
Her sons would never grow up believing they had been unwanted.
Now they stood before the father who had abandoned them without ever knowing they existed.
Little Daniel stepped forward.
"If you didn't want us..."
His voice trembled.
"...why are you crying now?"
May you like
Richard couldn't answer.
For the first time in his life, success, wealth, and pride meant absolutely nothing.
