Chapter 1: The Truth No One Could Erase

The room fell into complete silence.

The older woman's hands trembled as Judge Vance slowly closed his badge holder.

"You... you're not supposed to be here," she whispered.

Judge Vance remained calm.

"I wasn't supposed to be," he replied. "Until this hospital reported suspicious legal documents being forced on a patient less than an hour after childbirth."

The police officer looked from the judge to the clipboard.

"Ma'am," he said firmly, "please hand me those papers."

"No!" the older woman snapped.

She tried to rip the documents in half.

Too late.

Judge Vance calmly removed another folder from his briefcase.

"I already have certified copies."

The nurse gently took the crying newborn from the older woman's arms and returned the baby to the mother.

The young woman hugged her child tightly, tears streaming down her face.

"I thought no one would believe me."

Judge Vance looked toward the ceiling.

"The security cameras believed you."

The officer immediately called hospital security.

"Secure every hallway. No one leaves this floor."

Minutes later, security officers escorted the older woman out of the room in handcuffs.

She screamed the entire way.

"You don't know who I am!"

Judge Vance answered without looking back.

"By tomorrow, everyone will."

The mother finally looked at both of her twins sleeping peacefully beside her.
