CHAPTER 3 — CLOSE THE GATES

CHAPTER 3 — CLOSE THE GATES

The garden felt colder, even under the sunlight.

The woman in the server uniform was no longer a server.

She was still.

Composed.

Dangerously calm.

Mrs. Carter’s gaze swept across the guests who had been laughing moments earlier.

“Interesting,” she said softly. “You all enjoy judging people quickly.”

No one dared to speak.

The suited man waited.

The little girl held onto her mother’s hand.

Then Mrs. Carter spoke again.

“Close the gates.”

The command landed like a thunderclap.

“No one leaves,” she continued, her voice steady and final, “until the truth is shown.”

Security began moving immediately.

Whispers turned into panic.

The older woman who had laughed before now stepped back, shaking.

“W-what is this…?” she stammered.

Mrs. Carter turned slightly, her expression unreadable.

“This,” she said, “is where consequences begin.”

And in that moment, the perfect garden party ended—

Not with music.

Not with applause.

But with silence… and locked gates.

End of story.
