Chapter 4: The Truth Lena Never Told

Chapter 4: The Truth Lena Never Told
While Lena fought for her life, Marco ordered an investigation unlike any in the family's history.
Nothing was off limits.
Within twenty-four hours, the truth began surfacing.
Caruso hadn't betrayed the DeLucas for money.
He had been working with a rival organization for nearly three years.
Every attempted ambush...
Every leaked shipment...
Every failed operation...
Caruso had orchestrated them all.
But one discovery stunned Marco even more.
An accountant entered his office carrying a thin folder.
"This belongs to Miss Carter."
Marco frowned.
"What is it?"
"Her financial records."
"I didn't ask for those."
"I think you should see them."
Marco opened the file.
Nearly every paycheck Lena had earned during the past year had gone directly toward her younger brother's spinal rehabilitation.
Her personal bank account contained less than eight hundred dollars.
She had never stolen.
Never accepted bribes.
Never used the DeLuca name for personal gain.
Then another envelope appeared.
Inside was an unsigned letter.
If anything happens to me...
Please make sure Danny finishes his treatment.
He deserves a normal life.
Don't tell him I was scared.
Marco stopped reading.
His hands shook.
The woman he'd treated like she was invisible had prepared for death...
Without asking anyone to save her.
He quietly folded the letter and slipped it into his pocket.
"No matter what it costs," he said,
"her brother gets every treatment available."
"And Caruso?"
Marco's face became stone.
"I want him alive."
May you like
"Why alive?"
"Because death is too easy."
