Chapter 10: A New Horizon

The sun was setting over the Hudson River, painting the sky in brilliant shades of violet, amber, and deep crimson.

Maren stood on the private wrap-around balcony of her penthouse, the cool autumn breeze catching her blonde hair. Below her, the endless sea of New York traffic hummed like a distant, steady heartbeat.

She didn't need a wheelchair anymore. Though the physical therapy had been grueling, demanding every ounce of grit and resilience she possessed, her legs carried her firmly against the glass railing.

Footsteps approached softly from behind.

"You'll catch a cold out here," Eleanor’s voice murmured warmly as she stepped onto the balcony, draping a cashmere shawl over Maren’s shoulders.

Maren pulled the shawl close, smiling as she looked out at the glowing skyline. "I’m not fragile anymore, Mom. I think I finally learned that."

Eleanor smiled softly, standing beside her daughter and resting her hands on the railing. "You never were fragile, Maren. You just forgot your own strength because you were surrounded by people who were terrified of how powerful you could be."

From inside the penthouse, the sound of Clara laughing echoed down the hallway as she argued with Marcus over some minor security detail for the upcoming charity gala.

Maren looked down at her hands. The scars of the past were still there—invisible reminders of a poisoned dinner, a shattered wheelchair, and a betrayal that nearly cost her everything. But as she gripped the cold stone of the balcony railing, she didn't feel fear. She felt absolute, unshakeable freedom.

"Are you ready for tomorrow?" Eleanor asked quietly.

May you like

Maren turned her gaze toward the horizon, where the first evening stars were beginning to pierce the twilight sky.

"I've never been more ready," Maren said, her voice steady and clear. "Let’s begin."
