Chapter 4: Learning to Heal

Healing didn't happen overnight.

Megan needed weeks of physical therapy before she could walk comfortably again.

Emotionally, the scars ran even deeper.

Some nights she woke up crying after nightmares.

Other nights she apologized for things that were never her fault.

Each time, I reminded her of the truth.

"You survived."

"You protected our baby."

"You never have to apologize again."

Little by little, laughter returned to our apartment.

We painted the nursery together.

We assembled the crib.

For the first time in months, Megan smiled without forcing it.

Then, three weeks before her due date, she placed my hand on her belly.

The baby kicked.

May you like

We both laughed through tears.

It felt like hope saying hello.
