Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth

Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth
The next morning, Ethan stayed home from work.
Something still bothered him.
Olivia's exhaustion.
Her pale skin.
Her fear.
There had to be more.
While Olivia rested upstairs, Ethan quietly searched the kitchen cabinets for the prenatal vitamins and blood pressure medication her doctor had prescribed.
He couldn't find them.
He checked every drawer.
Nothing.
Then he searched the trash outside.
After twenty minutes...
He found the orange prescription bottle.
Empty.
Buried beneath coffee grounds and food scraps.
His hands began to shake.
The pharmacy label showed it had been filled only six days earlier.
Someone had thrown it away on purpose.
He carried the bottle inside.
"Dad?"
Olivia whispered from the staircase.
"I've been looking everywhere for those..."
She looked terrified.
"I thought maybe I lost them."
Ethan gently held her shoulders.
"Did someone tell you they disappeared?"
She hesitated.
Then nodded.
"Your mom said pregnancy pills were making me weak."
His stomach twisted.
"She said women gave birth long before medicine existed."
Ethan closed his eyes.
The anger inside him became something colder.
Much colder.

This wasn't neglect.
Someone had deliberately put his wife and unborn son in danger.
