The next morning, Elena found an envelope beneath her apartment door.
No return address.
Inside were six photographs.
Every one of them showed Noah walking to school.
The last picture had three words written across the bottom.
Children disappear too.
Her hands began shaking.
She immediately called the police.
Officer Daniels looked at the pictures.
"Do you know anyone who'd do this?"
She hesitated.
"...Yes."
"Mark Keller?"
She nodded.
"We'll look into it."
She recognized the expression.
Nothing would happen.
Nothing ever did.
An hour later, she reported for work.
Vincent was already waiting.
He noticed the envelope before she spoke.
"Show me."
She handed him every photograph.
His eyes darkened.
Not with fear.
With something much colder.
He quietly folded the pictures.
Then looked toward Anthony.
"Lock every entrance."
The restaurant staff exchanged nervous glances.
Lunch service hadn't even started.
Anthony spoke softly.
"Boss?"
Vincent's answer sent chills through the room.
"No one leaves."
Thirty minutes later...
Mark Keller was dragged into Luna Vero through the kitchen entrance.
His hands were zip-tied.
Blood trickled from his nose.
He looked terrified.
Elena stood frozen.
"Vincent..."
He never looked away from Mark.
"Did you threaten a child?"
"I swear I didn't!"
Vincent placed the photographs on the table.
"Then explain these."
Mark's eyes widened.
"I've never seen those!"
For the first time...
Vincent hesitated.
He could always recognize fear.
