CHAPTER 3: JUSTICE FOR EMMA

CHAPTER 3: JUSTICE FOR EMMA
Three months later...
The courtroom was packed.
Emma sat beside her parents, holding the same little flower basket that had been cleaned and carefully preserved.
This time...
...she wasn't afraid.
The jury needed less than two hours.
"Guilty."
On every count.
The judge sentenced the man to years in state prison.
He was ordered to pay every medical expense, emotional damages, and restitution to Emma and her family.
Outside the courthouse, reporters crowded around the detective.
"What solved the case?"
He smiled.
"It wasn't luck."
"It was the truth."
"The cameras simply gave the truth a voice."
Emma walked out holding her father's hand.
The scar above her eyebrow would fade with time.
The memory would take longer.
But she had learned something few adults ever do.
A lie can fool a crowd.
It can destroy reputations.
It can even hurt innocent people.
But eventually...
the truth catches up.
As the family disappeared into the afternoon sunlight, the screen slowly faded to black.
THE CCTV EXPOSED EVERYTHING
