Chapter 1: The Girl Who Refused to Stay Silent

The ballroom fell into complete silence.

Only moments earlier, crystal glasses had been raised in celebration. Now, every guest stared at the enormous screen hanging above the stage.

The surveillance footage froze on the exact moment Ethan shoved twelve-year-old Lily against the brick wall behind the charity hall.

A collective gasp swept through the room.

"No..." whispered one of the board members.

Another guest covered her mouth.

"My God... that's a child."

Ethan dropped his champagne glass. It shattered across the marble floor.

"It's fake!" he screamed. "Someone edited it!"

But before anyone could respond, Detective Harris stepped forward.

"We recovered this footage directly from the city's surveillance server."

He held up a sealed evidence drive.

"It has been verified by forensic analysts."

Ethan's face drained of color.

The woman standing behind him—his fiancée, Claire—stared as if she were looking at a complete stranger.

"You told me she attacked you," Claire whispered.

"You said she tried to steal your watch."

Ethan couldn't answer.

Because the video continued.

Another camera angle appeared.

It showed Lily trying to run away.

Then Ethan grabbing her by the arm.

Then striking her hard enough to send her crashing into the wall.

Several guests turned away, unable to watch.

Claire burst into tears.

"I loved a monster."

Police officers stepped forward.

"You are under arrest for aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, and child endangerment."

This time...

Ethan didn't resist.
