Chapter 2: The Truth Comes Out

Chapter 2: The Truth Comes Out
Three months later.
Emma had given birth to a healthy baby girl named Lily.
She smiled more now.
The dark circles beneath her eyes had disappeared.
Meanwhile, Ethan's world was falling apart.
The investigation uncovered years of financial fraud committed by his mother.
She had secretly forged Emma's signature to take out loans in her name.
She had also sold jewelry Richard had given his daughter before the wedding.
Everything was documented.
When confronted, Ethan finally realized how many lies he had believed.
His mother had spent years convincing him that Emma was manipulative.
That she was disrespectful.
That she wanted control of the family.
None of it had been true.
One rainy afternoon, Ethan appeared outside Richard's home.
He wasn't wearing an expensive suit anymore.
He looked exhausted.
"I don't expect forgiveness," he said.
"I only came to apologize."
Emma stepped onto the porch, holding baby Lily.
"You know," she said softly, "the hardest part wasn't when you slapped me."
Ethan closed his eyes in shame.
"It was when you watched your mother destroy me... and chose to stay silent."
He couldn't answer.
Because she was right.
He left without asking to see his daughter.
He knew he hadn't earned that privilege.
