Chapter 1: The Truth Beneath the Water

Chapter 1: The Truth Beneath the Water
Emma stood trembling beside the pool.
Her wedding dress clung to her skin, dripping onto the marble patio.
The crowd remained frozen.
Not a single guest dared to breathe.
Victoria's face had turned ghostly pale as Emma slowly lifted the ringing phone.
"Dad."
The single word on the screen seemed louder than the orchestra that had fallen silent.
Before Emma could answer, another voice echoed from behind the crowd.
"Emma."
Everyone turned.
Chairman Carter stepped through the stunned guests, accompanied by several executives and security guards.
Without hesitation, he removed his expensive suit jacket and gently wrapped it around Emma's shoulders.
"My daughter," he said softly. "Are you hurt?"
Emma tried to smile.
"I'm okay, Dad."
Gasps spread across the garden.
Victoria staggered backward.
"N-No... that's impossible."
Ethan stared at Emma as if he had never truly known her.
"You... you're Chairman Carter's daughter?"
Emma lowered her eyes.
"I never wanted anyone to know."
Chairman Carter looked directly at Victoria.
"So you're the woman who pushed my daughter into a pool on her wedding day."
Victoria forced a nervous laugh.
"It was... just a misunderstanding."
The Chairman's expression never changed.
"No."
"It was humiliation."
He turned toward Ethan.
"I entrusted my daughter to a man who promised to protect her."
His voice remained calm.
"You watched."
Ethan couldn't deny it.
"I froze."
"And that's exactly why you failed her."
Those words hit harder than any scream.
Emma quietly slipped the engagement ring from her finger.
She placed it into Ethan's shaking hand.
"I loved you."
A tear rolled down her cheek.
"But love without courage can never become a marriage."
She walked away beside her father.

For the first time that night...
No one tried to stop her.
