Chapter 3: Every Lie Was Recorded

Chapter 3: Every Lie Was Recorded
The first video began to play.
It showed Ethan grabbing my wrist outside the ballroom.
Then shoving me into the marble wall.
The impact echoed through the speakers.
Gasps filled the room.
The next clip appeared.
Ethan laughing with his friends.
"Nobody will believe her."
"My father's donated half this museum."
"She'll apologize before midnight."
His friends laughed.
The third recording was worse.
Victor Caldwell speaking privately with the gala director only an hour earlier.
"If she causes trouble..."
"Delete every camera angle that makes my son look guilty."
The director nodded.
"I understand."
A wave of whispers swept across the ballroom.
Several politicians quietly stepped away from the Caldwell family.
Business partners lowered their eyes.
Reporters who had been invited to cover the charity event suddenly raised their cameras.
Victor's face drained of color.
"You hacked these recordings!"
I shook my head.
"No."
"I preserved them."
Before he could respond, another voice echoed through the speakers.
"This archive has already been transmitted."
"To every major news network."
The ballroom froze.

Someone whispered,
"...It's over."
