CHAPTER 2: The Secret That Was Buried For Twenty-Eight Years

Silence consumed the entire wedding venue.

Margaret stared at Emily.

Then at the necklace.

Then back at the scar.

Tears instantly flooded her eyes.

“Where did you get your pendant?”

Emily slowly removed the necklace from beneath her dress.

“I've worn it my whole life.”

She held it up.

The two pendants were identical.

Margaret nearly collapsed.

Twenty-eight years earlier…

She had been a young mother raising a four-year-old daughter named Sophia.

One terrible night, a massive fire broke out during a carnival.

In the chaos, Sophia disappeared.

Authorities searched for months.

Nothing.

No body.

No clues.

Only heartbreak.

Margaret spent years blaming herself.

Eventually she gave up.

Then Daniel was born years later.

But she never stopped grieving her lost daughter.

As Emily stood there trembling, Margaret reached toward her face.

“Do you remember anything before you were adopted?”

Emily nodded slowly.

“Very little.”

“I remember fire.”

“Smoke.”

“And a woman screaming my name.”

Margaret completely broke down.

“Sophia.”

Emily froze.

“What?”

“That was your name.”

Tears streamed down Margaret's face.

“You're my daughter.”

Daniel looked stunned.

“My sister?”

Emily couldn't even breathe.

Her entire life changed in one sentence.

Margaret suddenly fell to her knees.

The elegant woman everyone feared was now a broken mother begging for forgiveness.

“Oh my God…”

“What have I done?”

She grabbed Emily's hands.

“I spent years hating you because I thought you were stealing my son away from me.”

“But I was wrong.”

“I was pushing away my own daughter.”

The guests around them were crying.

Emily's tears flowed uncontrollably.

All her life she had wondered where she came from.

Who abandoned her.

Who she belonged to.

And now…

The answer was kneeling in front of her.
