Chapter 2: Everything Falls Apart

Within forty-eight hours, the city was buzzing.

Victoria's charitable foundation was under investigation.

Several luxury properties were frozen.

Former employees began contacting investigators.

One accusation became five.

Five became twenty.

News stations camped outside the mansion.

Daniel could barely leave the house.

Every headline reminded him of everything he had ignored.

Business Heiress Files for Divorce After Alleged Abuse.

Powerful Family Faces Fraud Investigation.

Former Staff Reveal Years of Psychological Manipulation.

His phone never stopped ringing.

Board members demanded answers.

Investors pulled funding.

Friends stopped returning his calls.

Even relatives distanced themselves.

For the first time, the family name carried shame instead of prestige.

Victoria refused to accept reality.

"They're jealous," she insisted.

"This is all your wife's father's revenge."

Daniel finally exploded.

"No."

His voice echoed through the empty dining room.

"This happened because of you."

She stared at him in disbelief.

"You ungrateful boy."

"I protected you your entire life."

Daniel laughed bitterly.

"You isolated me."

"You controlled me."

"You taught me that silence was loyalty."

He looked directly into her eyes.

"And because of that..."

"I lost the only woman who ever truly loved me."

Victoria slapped him.

Hard.

The room fell silent.

Daniel didn't touch his face.

He simply smiled sadly.

"I finally understand how Evelyn felt."

Without another word, he walked upstairs.

An hour later, he left the mansion carrying only one suitcase.

He never returned.

Across town, Evelyn attended her first therapy session.

Healing wasn't instant.

Some mornings she still woke up terrified.

Sometimes she apologized for things that weren't her fault.

Sometimes loud voices made her flinch.

But every week became a little easier.

She started painting again.

Reading again.

Laughing again.

Little by little...

She began recognizing herself in the mirror.

One afternoon, while walking through her father's gardens, she smiled for the first time without forcing it.

Her father noticed.

"I've been waiting to see that smile."

May you like

She squeezed his hand.

"I think I'm finally coming home."
