Chapter 1a: The Divorce That Shook an Empire

The mansion gates closed behind Eleanor without a single glance over her shoulder.

She sat silently in the backseat of her father's black sedan, her trembling hands wrapped around a cup of untouched tea. For the first time in months, no one was shouting at her. No one was criticizing the way she spoke, dressed, or breathed.

Her father remained quiet until they reached the family estate.

Then he finally spoke.

"You'll never have to earn your worth again."

Those words shattered the last wall protecting Eleanor's emotions.

She broke into tears, not from pain this time, but from relief.

Meanwhile, inside the mansion, silence had become unbearable.

Marcus wandered through the empty rooms, realizing every trace of Eleanor's warmth was gone. Her favorite books had disappeared. The fresh flowers she changed every week were gone. Even the piano had fallen silent.

His mother, Vivian, refused to admit defeat.

"She'll come crawling back," she scoffed.

Marcus wasn't so sure.

The following morning, a courier arrived carrying a thick envelope.

Inside were divorce papers.

Along with them came something Marcus never expected.

A detailed report documenting years of emotional abuse inside the household.

Hidden recordings.

Security footage.

Witness statements from servants who had quietly watched Eleanor endure humiliation after humiliation.

Every insult.

Every slap.

Every cruel command.

Every moment Marcus chose silence over courage.

His hands trembled as he reached the final page.

Eleanor wasn't asking for revenge.

She wanted freedom.

And she wanted absolutely nothing from him except the legal end of their marriage.

Marcus signed nothing.

Instead, he drove to her father's estate.

The security guards stopped him before he reached the front entrance.

"Miss Eleanor has declined to see you."
